Bus tour to Gjógv
This day excursion goes to the romantic village of Gjógv.
The village Gjógv is nestled on the outermost north-eastern tip of Eysturoy, the second largest island in the Faroes.
On our way East we will go for a walk on the bridge connecting the islands Streymoy and Eysturoy, pass the imposing summits of Slættaratindur (882 metres) and Gráfelli (857 metres), the tallest mountains in the archipelago, located between the villages of Eiði and Gjógv.
Gjógv is best known for its picturesque scenery dotted with multi-coloured old house built around its vital natural harbour, which lies protected in the gorge that has given the village its name, Gjógv means gorge in Faroese. It is a fitting name; the harbour carved by the sea was the village’s lifeline before the arrival of modern roads.
This is a very small village – approx. 30 people live in Gjógv nowadays, but it attracts many visitors, both foreigners and locals, who are seduced by its romantic tranquillity. Gjógv is the perfect spot for a leisurly stroll, and we will explore the little village before heading to its charming guesthouse, Gjáargarður, for hot drinks and pastries.
