Bus tour and home visit at Garðahúsið
Enjoy a unique home visit
This is a very unique tour that starts in Tórshavn and heads out along the beautiful mountain road above Tórshavn called Oyggjarvegurin, literally the ‘Island Road,’ and over the Norðradalsskarð mountain pass, from where you can see the islands of Koltur and Hestur.
Then we continue to Kollafjørður, which is the longest village in the Faroe Island and is located on Streymoy’s east coast. ‘Fjørður’ means fjord or inlet in Faroese and the village Kollafjørður contours the fjord, so it stretches along nearly 10 kilometres, in spite of its small size. The characteristic parish church in Kollafjørður dates from 1837.
The tour continues over the bridge that connects Streymoy and Eysturoy, which is, in fact, the only bridge across the North Atlantic. After crossing we drive past a few small villages on our way to Søldarfjørður, where we will stop for hot drinks and pastries at the cosy 19th century country home “Garðahúsið”. The Village Søldarfjørður is part of a chain of villages stretching along the entire east side of the Skálafjørður inlet on Eysturoy. The drive to Garðahúsið takes around 1 hour and gives you the possibility to see most of Streymoy and Eysturoy, which are they main Islands on the Faroe Islands.
Garðahús is a private home and the hosts Jákup & Lena live in this beautiful home. Jákup and Lena open their beautiful home for home visits and if you want a truly unique experience, this is a tour for you. You experience the beautiful landscape in Eysturoy and Streymoy and you meet the locals, which makes this tour both scenic and historical.
